Civil aviation

KARACHI:

The civil aviation industry has significantly influenced modern life. Had the industry not existed, the possibility of transportation within a few hours for hundreds of miles would have been a dream. The civil aviation industry has practically turned the world very small.

To help develop and strengthen worldwide awareness of the significance of civil aviation in the socio-economic expansion of states, the United Nations (UN) celebrates International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) every year. For 2023, the theme is “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development.” The history of ICAD dates back to 1944 when delegates from 54 nations gathered in Chicago and signed the Convention on International Civil Aviation. The day was first celebrated as part of the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Convention.

With the adoption of new agenda for global sustainable development, the importance of aviation as a source of global connectivity has become more relevant. International peace and prosperity are primarily associated with how well-connected and close we are in terms of physical distance. For developing countries like Pakistan, there is an increased need to be in touch with the international norms concerning civil aviation. A robust international collaboration is vital in this context; substantial efforts are required to acquire it. The image-building of the prevailing national civil aviation through events such as open houses and seminars on ICAD will allow the world to understand our interest in advancements and may help improve our civil aviation industry.
