National dialogue

National dialogue

KARACHI:

For decades, we have seen political leaders and parties propagate the narrative that the country is experiencing a difficult economic, internal security, and diplomatic situation. All leaders pursue their own course of action, and some were on the course to success as these pathways took many other nations to the desired destination. However, in Pakistan, they failed to bear fruit as we have a history of toppling governments, discontinuing policies, and abandoning plans midway.

The current socio-economic situation of the country is alarming and has raised the risk of an eventual default. Every day we come across reports of the worsening economic crisis and the need to reform our foreign policy. The rising inflation coupled with the ongoing political turmoil is increasing frustration among the masses. The need of the hour is for all stakeholders to put aside their differences and sit together to devise a policy framework for the future of the country.

Considering that all political parties claim to have experts in different fields, they should come forward with the best experts to form economic and social strategies, which should remain in place despite regime changes. These frameworks can be integrated with the Constitution and all major amendments must come from a parliamentary consensus and minor from the majority of the house at that time. It is not too late; the federal government and the opposition must acknowledge the benefits of a national dialogue and work cooperatively to steer the country out of a major crisis.
