Active lifestyle

KARACHI:

As a physiotherapist, I regularly come across younger patients who experience lower back pain. The main reason for this is sitting hunched back in the same position for prolonged periods. Most modern workplaces have adopted a sedentary style instead of an active one.

Many young people today spend a large proportion of their day seated on a chair behind a desk. After work, they are too exhausted to participate in physical activities. This lethargy and inactivity are increasing the risks of severe health conditions such as high blood pressure, excessive glucose tiers, and high cholesterol, which results in metabolic syndrome. There is also an increased hazard of diabetes and cancer.

Individuals who spend their time sitting for long periods must incorporate different activities and habits into their daily lifestyle. People should start with small changes such as taking a stroll during the lunch break within the office premises and walking when taking a phone call at home. Physical activities such as yoga and exercise can also help strengthen one’s bones and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
