Utter disappointment

KARACHI:

The current government assumed power to curb inflation and provide relief to people suffering under the burden of ever-increasing prices and a faltering economy. Nearly seven months later, the government seems to have done nothing to tackle inflation and strengthen the economy. They seem more focused on their issues such as cases against them and the opposition i.e., the PTI leadership, which has proven to be a real pain for them. It appears that the parties in power and the opposition only have one issue, which is not the economy, inflation, or even anything close. It is rather the appointment of the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS). Our universe is revolving around issues, which should hardly be news.

Both sides have completely forgotten about the public’s misery and the fact that whoever becomes the COAS will not matter if the country defaults. Unfortunately, our leadership is so obsessed with power and self-interest that they fail to see the inevitable. The need of the hour is that all stakeholders sit together and agree on some core actions to save and strengthen the economy. Alas, it seems it is too much to ask from our selfish leaders.
