KARACHI:
In a bid to upgrade the education system, the Sindh Government has hired a hefty number of well-qualified primary and junior elementary school teachers in the Education Department. These teachers will be posted at schools in both rural and urban areas of Sindh to fulfil their duties.
Contrarily, the majority of the government schools in Sindh are in a poor state. Most schools lack desks and chairs with little to no electricity and sanitation services. In remote areas, school buildings are used for agriculture or other purposes. In this gloomy situation, appointing teachers alone will not bear any results instead it will further constrain the government’s resources. The education department should work alongside school administration and teachers to address the myriad issues.
The foremost thing to do is repair the existing school buildings that are in poor condition and equip them with proper facilities including electricity supply. The government can also utilise eco-friendly solar projects for school buildings in remote areas. Besides this, teachers should be provided with modern technology i.e., laptops and projectors to improve students’ exposure and access to digital teaching and learning. In any country, particularly in Pakistan, education is the main source of change and can drive the country towards progress and development. Thus, the Sindh government must adopt a comprehensive strategy to make education accessible and affordable for all its citizens.
