Considering that children’s secondary socialisation takes place at schools, teachers’ behaviour has a significant impact on the students’ overall development. Teachers play a crucial role in creating a knowledgeable and helpful learning environment. Therefore, it is crucial that all teachers, tutors, and professors conduct themselves as professional and compassionate individuals.
In Pakistan, most teachers do not receive any formal training or mentoring before they begin their careers. Consequently, across the country, teachers can be found disrespecting and harassing students. Recently, students at the University of Turbat staged a protest against a teacher who was accused of derogating students.
Abusing and shaming students of any level is not only unprofessional but creates a poor learning environment discouraging students from studying altogether. All education institutes must enforce a code of conduct for teachers and take strict action against any teachers accused of harassing or humiliating students.
