Freelancing

KARACHI:

We frequently come across the term ‘freelancing’ on different social media platforms as most employment opportunities consist of freelancing. What many people don’t realise is that freelancing is not limited to one field, in fact, it allows individuals specialising in different skills to sell their services locally or internationally. People can work either part-time or full-time from the comfort of their homes.

Many Pakistani freelance writers write content for international blogs. Freelance web developers create responsive websites for entrepreneurs. Copywriters write emails, newsletters, and sales pitches for businesses. Virtual assistants help clients manage, organise, and improve their work. Freelance teaching and mentoring have also become extremely common as tutors and teachers are now offering online classes, courses, etc for different subjects and skills.

Initially, people struggle with freelancing as they require assistance in landing jobs and finding clients. But various verified platforms connect freelancers with employers and companies. People can also find freelancing gigs through social media websites. Several local universities are now offering freelance training sessions to better equip students with the knowledge and skills to kickstart their careers. The government has also launched different initiatives to help graduates and students with finding employment. Considering that Pakistan is the fourth fastest-growing freelance marketplace, the government and educational institutes must continue improving awareness about freelancing among students as it can help curb unemployment as well as allow Pakistan to gain an important position in the global freelance market.
