KARACHI:
Dialogue and diplomacy are crucial elements of politics to settle disputes. Globally, political parties and leaders negotiate with one another to resolve disagreements and reach a logical conclusion. Unfortunately, the Pakistani political scenario is far removed from this. Our leaders are engaged in an unending blame game through which they are sowing seeds of hatred and division amongst the masses as well.
Pakistan’s political history is full of violence and bloodshed. From the assassination of the first prime minister to attacks on key political leaders, the country has experienced it all. When propagating hate politics and divisive narratives, politicians must realise that they can themselves become a target. Instead of trying to eliminate political opponents through hate, they should focus on delivering their promises and uplifting their constituencies to win the elections.
Currently, people have been divided along political preferences, which has deepened polarisation in society. This is extremely dangerous because it can result in skirmishes that can cause widespread chaos. Politicians should refrain from further stoking the flames of violence and avoid politics of confrontation. Otherwise, no one will remain unaffected by it. They should sit together and resolve their differences through negotiations for the sake of the country.
