Incompetent politicians

Letter November 08, 2022
Incompetent politicians

KARACHI:

While the country is on the brink of an economic abyss, our politicians are busy hurling abuses and playing their favourite game of maligning each other. Both the government and the opposition are not budging from their positions and threatening each other with dire consequences. If they have even a shred of love for the country and concern for the people of Pakistan, they would sit together and agree on some core principles.

They must all agree on a framework for economic recovery that should go on irrespective of who is in power. Also, some lines need to be drawn in opposing and dislodging political opponents from power. Misuse of countries’ institutions and agencies to hold a grip on power, filing fake cases, and leaking personal information, audio, and videos of opponents to malign them should be stopped.

If our politicians do not agree on these basics, I am afraid the country will slip into complete economic oblivion, and we will continue seeing cases of defamation and slander. I hope and pray that some sense prevails and our leaders and decision-makers step back and decide to bring some decency back into power politics.
