It goes without saying that water is the most fundamental right of every individual. Unfortunately, a significant number of people in the country are deprived of this basic need. The people of Balochistan are, however, the worst sufferers in this regard. Turbat — despite being the second largest city of Balochistan after Quetta, the provincial capital — is among the areas where people have been suffering for want of water for years and years. Water is not even available for drinking. The situation is so severe that I know of people who have had to spend half of their income on buying water for fulfilling their most pressing needs. It is time for the authorities to focus on the provision of this lifeline need for the people of Balochistan who are already leading a miserable life.
