KARACHI:
Everyone spreads waste or garbage on the streets. Still, the problem starts when we blame the government for not managing the waste properly and assume that our responsibility ends here. However, we are the ones who litter the streets in the first place. Throwing garbage on the roads not only spoils the environment but also results in an infestation of disease-causing insects. Food wrappers thrown on the street contribute up to 31.15%, bottles and cans up to 15.5%, and plastic up to 11.18% to environmental pollution in Pakistan. We can prevent these hazards by taking the following measures: Dispose of waste properly in the dustbins; carry a paper bag to keep our debris in case we cannot find a bin; spread awareness regarding the scientific concept of recycling and report the people who are repeatedly seen throwing garbage at the authorities.
