Political rivalry

Political rivalry

KARACHI:

The rivalry, rather animosity, between our politicians has reached an unprecedented level. Our politicians, it seems, have zero tolerance for others and no concern for the country. They are so obsessed with power that they don’t want anything to come between them and the helm. When the PTI came to power in 2018, it was not welcomed by any of the opposition parties. The PTI leaders were labeled as incompetent. The economy faltered and inflation rose steeply, which led to lawlessness and crime. But the opposition parties, instead of letting the government work, kept creating hurdles to topple it. The PTI on the other hand kept blaming the “corrupt” previous governments for the economic woes.

Early this year, Imran Khan was removed from power through a no-confidence vote and PDM took over the country. It has been more than five months since this coalition government has come in, and the economy has gone from bad to worst. The government led by PM Shehbaz Sharif has failed miserably in saving the economy which is on a ventilator. While inflation is at an all-time high and floods have devastated the country, our politicians are only involved in blame game. The PTI is holding public rallies demanding a fresh election. The government on the other hand is busy holding pressers, trying to label Khan a threat to national security. In their lust for power, the political parties are not willing to sit together to rescue the country from a looming financial default. If they don’t mend their way, I am afraid they will not have a country to settle their scores.
