Karachi’s myriad problems

Letter September 20, 2022
Karachi’s myriad problems

KARACHI:

Karachi is one of the world’s fastest growing cities, but its problems are also growing. Rising pollution, dilapidated road infrastructure, poor transport services, overflowing drains, and lack of water and power are among the major issues faced by the citizens of Karachi. The recent rains have added to the problems of what is called the financial capital of the country. No government over the years has paid due attention towards addressing the very many woes of the city. The PPP government, which has been in power for years and years in Sindh province, of which Karachi is the capital, is mostly to blame. MQM is also responsible for the prevailing state of affairs, as they have been coalition partners of Sindh rulers since the 90s. Imran Khan’s PTI won 14 seats from Karachi, but never paid the attention that the city deserves. All political parties are therefore requested to unite and focus on resolving the problems of a city which is the country’s economic engine.
