KARACHI:
The recent monsoon rains that triggered flash floods have caused death and destruction across the country. More than 33 million people have been displaced and over 1,500 people have perished. There has been a vast damage to livestock and property also. Rainwater is still standing in many parts of the country and according to reports, it will take two to three months for the water to recede. The standing rainwater is the cause of the outbreak of many diseases, and dengue is one of them. If media reports are to be believed, no major city of the country is spared from the dengue virus. In the capital city of Islamabad, 871 cases of the deadly fever have been reported. I request the government to take action and arrest the spread of the deadly virus.
