Stray dogs

Stray dogs

KARACHI:

Pakistan is experiencing an unusual rise in the population of stray dogs. Cases of dog bites and animal abuse are being reported every day from various parts of the country. But the situation in Sindh province — where there is the highest number of stray dogs in comparison with the rest of the country — appears to be the most serious. Pack of dangerously looking dogs roaming at places in Karachi is a common eyesore.

People — especially small kids — are scared of stepping out of their homes. And while the authorities are paying scant attention to this menace, some people have taken it upon themselves to find a solution. As a result, we have seen dogs beaten, ill-treated and even shot dead. We request the authorities to take steps to resolve the issue as early as possible. There is also the need to sensitise people on how to treat animals through awareness campaigns.
