Developing skills

KARACHI:

Many physical, social, psychological and environmental factors influence an individual’s understanding of different concepts during the learning process. Learning strategies include planning, incorporating different skills, techniques, and methods, and inculcating behaviours that can help students develop the ability to process different forms of information.

Often social, cultural, and scientific innovations are not reflected in educational programs. Therefore, technological advancements are necessary. In recent years, research on mentoring and effective learning has improved practical learning. This can be further improved by applying a learner-centred teaching method so that individuals are equipped with modern knowledge. Instead of simply testing students’ knowledge through tests and presentations, teachers should also assess students’ time management skills, ability to work under pressure, etc. To develop study skills, it is also important to adopt a hands-on attitude

Some barriers to maintaining consistent academic performance include test anxiety, inadequate academic competence, and ineffective techniques. This prevents students from attaining good results and they fail to develop their skills. Therefore, educational institutes and faculty must incorporate teaching techniques that can help students manage stress, anxiety, and pressure. Besides academic achievements, students should be encouraged to develop other interpersonal and intrapersonal skills that can help them in their professional lives.
