KARACHI:
Congratulations to team Pakistan for their well-deserved win against the arch-rival India in their first match of the Super 4 stage of the Asia T20 Cricket Cup on Sunday. This was the second face-off between the two traditional rivals in this event. The first match was won by India the week before. Both matches went to the wire and were a treat to watch. It is heartening to see that our team, despite the defeat in the first match, did not throw its shoulders down and fought until the last over.
Both matches truly reverberated the words of late commentator Iftikhar Ahmed that cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties. Both teams had their moments and mistakes during the match, but our team held the nerves and emerged victorious. Due to its ups and downs, the match was not for the faint-hearted as it kept swinging one way or the other. When the match started, it seemed Indian batting will decimate Pakistan, but they got back into the game through quality spin.
Similarly, when we started batting, there were moments when it looked as though India will win but our batsmen regained their grip. Watching these amazing clashes makes one realise how much we are losing to unnecessary warmongering and hatred. Better relations between the two neighbours can not only increase business but also sports tourism giving people an opportunity to enjoy healthy and positive sporting events instead of unnecessary sabre-rattling and hate.
