Youth and politics

Youth and politics

KARACHI:

Considering that the youth make up a large proportion of the country’s population, their role in politics has remained small. They seem to have lost interest in participating in the political process after witnessing the self-serving motivations of the elected representatives, horse trading, absence of meritocracy, and blatant corruption. Resultantly, much of the youth today assume that participating in politics requires money and influence.

The main purpose of a democratic system is to serve the people who have elected the leader to power. However, after decades of corruption, poor governance, and negligence of the public’s problems, the people have become disillusioned with democracy and politics.

Today’s youth will be tomorrow’s nation builder. Therefore, the youth must mobilise themselves and participate in politics. The youth must become the voice of the masses. Globally, the youth play an active role in many countries’ political processes and have brought positive developments. Therefore, our youth must unite and begin their work at a grassroots level to become the force of change and progress.
