Time to act

KARACHI:

All political leaders and public service officers must sincerely fulfil their duties and act in the interests of the public. However, a lack of discipline amongst the Pakistani leadership and crooked priorities have left Pakistan in a state of disarray.

The current flooding in Balochistan, Sindh, south Punjab, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa require both public and the leadership’s attention. Unfortunately, the media and politicians have remained focused on political gimmicks. The provincial governments and elected representatives have disregarded the dire situation and failed to respond to people’s calls for help and relief. Fortunately, some non-governmental organisations and philanthropic individuals have stepped in to provide food, water, medicines, etc to flood victims and rescue stranded people. However, these people do not have the means to reach everyone, which is why government support is crucial. Both Sindh and Balochistan contribute to the country with their abundant resources, yet they have been neglected in terms of infrastructure development, public transportation, health care, disaster management, etc. Villages and towns in both provinces were already faced with deprivation and are now completely battered.

In opposition, all parties make tall claims about development and empowerment. However, once in power, they fail to bring any relief and have no plans to resolve the public’s problems. The public has had enough of the politicians’ lies and it is time that all political parties assume responsibility and work for the betterment of the people and the country.
