KARACHI:
Chaudhary Pervez Ellahi was the chief minister of Punjab during former President Pervez Musharraf’s tenure. As the chief minister, he focused on improving education and healthcare across Punjab. Under the education programme, he provided scholarships, stipends, free books, and free uniforms to all students enrolled in government schools across Punjab. This helped improve the literacy rate in Punjab and enhanced the quality of the workforce.
Another historical development was the formation of rescue 1122 services to ensure the availability of an emergency health response. Rescue 1122 is an exemplary project as it prioritises the welfare of the people. Both projects were sustainable and supported the overall development of Punjab.
After assuming the charge of the chief minister once again, Pervez Ellahi announced plans to increase the salary package of all public service employees, particularly the police, education, and health workers. Given that inflation is crippling the masses, this was a step in the right direction. He also announced plans of forming new legislation to ensure the implementation of the rule of law with the consultation of all the political parties. If the chief minister stays true to his word, these plans will bring prosperity and stability to Punjab after prolonged constitutional crises. He should also work on creating employment opportunities for the youth in different departments.
