KARACHI:
A long-awaited task in public sector organisations in our country is the transformation from the usual manual business model to one that is exclusively automated, namely Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). ERP is user-interfaced and designed to deliver valuable information to support various organisational operations, including planning, processes, administration, etc. The ERP software may be an information mainstay for the entire organisation. A vital point so far as implementation of ERP is concerned is well-organised incorporation of all organisational aspects, mainly focusing on reporting for the organisation. The execution of an ERP system ensures betterment at all levels because the users range from top to bottom, belonging to all the functional units. ERP provides a valuable link and the manual system’s usual file/red-tape culture is its main target. The prevailing culture has been a source of demotivation for the organisation’s employees. The loss of time and resources has adversely affected the effectualness of the organisation and may be avoided with proper measures.
A large “graveyard” of files is usually visible whenever you visit government offices. The employees keep running around their applications of any kind. The delay in bills is nothing but usual. To track a file is sometimes as difficult as living on the moon. And to get around all such limitations, the efforts to switch to ERP are indeed worth-praising. There is no doubt that the implementation of ERP will ensure transparency and effectiveness and will reduce expenditure by promoting environment-friendly paper-free culture. From hiring to the release of the pension of an employee, this system will revolutionise the entire mechanism. It will have a positive effect on the efficiency of all stakeholders by increasing the level of their confidence in the organization. It will make things crystal clear so far as leakages are concerned. The transformation from a manual system to ERP is costly and may need several months to deploy fully. Moreover, problems regarding users’ acquaintance with the system are an issue of concern. Nevertheless, where there is a will, there is a way.
