KARACHI:
Parts of Balochistan, Eastern Sindh and lower Punjab were almost swept away in the recent monsoon rains while a majority of the countrymen were busy watching the political drama in Punjab where the PTI and the PDM were battling for the crown in the country’s biggest province.
The rains undoubtedly caused huge havoc and cities like Karachi, Lahore and Multan got submerged. However, Balochistan, Kachho and lower Punjab have seen much greater devastation, with hundreds of people losing their lives, thousands getting injured, and countless houses turning into rubble. Life thus came to a grinding halt.
The images from the devastation are heart-wrenching. One of the viral images depicts a helpless father clutching the lifeless body of his small daughter who drowned in the river. Another one from Balochistan shows a decaying dead body of a man stuck into a tree. Even more disturbing is the image of a dead toddler lying on a floating mat. It is important to remember the victims from Sindh and Punjab, who have lost everything, including their loved ones and means of support. The authorities must immediately reach out to the victims and everyone who is impacted should get swift care and assistance.
