Rain destruction

KARACHI:

The ongoing torrential rains have lashed many parts of the country. Loss of lives and property has been reported in Sindh and Balochistan. Matiari, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar and Hyderabad districts of Sindh have been hugely affected due to the rains. According to the Sindh CM, 388 km of roads have been damaged in the province. Life has come to a halt in talukas of Matiari. Rainwater has entered the homes and remains stagnant on roads and streets. The situation is much worse in rural areas of the province. People are forced to live in open fields as the heavy rains have demolished their mud homes. Many people have lost the grains they had stored for themselves while working in fields throughout the year. They are now waiting for government support to come to them. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted a committee to assess the damage caused by the rains. The Sindh government and its disaster management authority must also immediately wake up and start carrying out relief and rescue work.
