Burgeoning inflation

Burgeoning inflation

KARACHI:

Although most segments of society have been affected by the surge in prices of basic commodities, the daily wagers and salaried individuals are the hardest hit because their income remains limited whilst prices continue to rise. Despite not having any luxuries, these individuals are required to pay high utility bills and public transport fares.

To cut their costs, some have reduced themselves to a single meal a day. Many such families are struggling to educate their children and have little choice but to take their children out of school and either marry them or send them to work. The ever-increasing inflation coupled with no government relief is increasing frustration among the public, which will eventually result in a high crime rate and social unrest.

During the elections, all political leaders manipulate the masses with their false promises to come to power. Now both the government and the opposition have conveniently turned a blind eye to the plight of the poor and vulnerable segments of society. They remain engaged in their blame game and power struggle. Unfortunately, it seems that there will be no respite for the masses unless there is an entire overhaul of the system.
