THARPARKER:
A large proportion of the Pakistani population resides in remote far-flung areas with most people relying on agricultural activities as their primary source of income. Most of these people live below the poverty line and lack access to basic necessities. Amid rising inflation and changing climatic conditions, many people are struggling to get by as agricultural output has deteriorated in both quantity and quality.
While some people have resorted to migrating to urban areas of the country, many others cannot afford to do so. Increased rural to urban migration is also causing unrest in the cities with a rise in shanty or illegal settlements. There has been a surge in begging, mugging, robberies, etc. Due to the fast-deteriorating economic conditions, employers are cutting costs through lay-offs, which is contributing to the ever-increasing unemployment issue. The youth are losing hope and resorting to extreme measures such as suicide.
The government and the opposition need to recognise the plight of the people because it is these people who help them come to power. Therefore, they must set their differences aside and work collectively to bring relief to the masses through facilitating industries, promoting education, and reforming and developing infrastructure.
