Lacklustre effort

Letter July 15, 2022
The KWSB has done a lacklustre job at best because the roads are now in a deplorable state

KARACHI:

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) dug many places in Soldier Bazar including Rodrick Road near Ghousia Chowk, Nishtar Park road, Britto road, and other adjacent roads to install sewerage lines to tackle drainage and sewerage problems in the area. Once the sewerage lines were installed, the KWSB’s team departed without repairing the roads.

Now, most roads in Soldier Bazar are in a dilapidated condition with little space for cars and motorists to drive on. The narrow roads are jampacked with traffic causing hours-long traffic jams daily. Motorists and pedestrians are faced with the constant danger of either getting into an accident or falling into an open ditch. After the recent rain spell, the roads’ condition has further deteriorated and poses a serious threat to cars, motorists, and pedestrians. The open sewers can also result in disease spread, build toxic chemicals, contaminate water, and become a breeding site for mosquitos.

The KWSB has done a lacklustre job at best because the roads are now in a deplorable state. Besides installing sewerage lines, the roads should have been rebuilt and the potholes should have been repaired to ensure safe driving conditions. I would urge the KWSB to address this issue at their earliest because the roads have become a serious cause of concern for many residents.
