No relief

Unfortunately, there is no quick-fix solution for the issues faced by the masses

KARACHI:

Pakistanis constantly find themselves stuck in a vicious cycle of the same problems. During the summers, they are faced with heavy load shedding, which is followed by flooding during the monsoon season, and gas outages in the winters. Disease outbreaks such as dengue and malaria are common occurrences. The Covid pandemic further intensified socio-economic problems in the country as nationwide lockdowns resulted in layoffs, financial losses, etc.

Once the pandemic subsided, Pakistan was faced with debt obligations to secure the International Monetary Fund (IMF) tranche, but the former government’s decision to freeze oil prices resulted in yet another predicament. After former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s removal, the incumbent government initially made safe decisions to garner support and ensure a long-term hold. Now they have been compelled to make difficult choices such as increasing fuel and energy prices. This has led to an increase in commodity prices, which are further adding to the public’s problems.

Unfortunately, there is no quick-fix solution for the issues faced by the masses. To overcome these challenges, we need an honest and devout leadership that is committed to reforming the country. Also, education should be available and accessible to all to overcome illiteracy, raise productivity, and promote harmony. Otherwise, we will continue to face one challenge after another without any respite.
