KARACHI:
Despite having a population of nearly 29 million, interior Sindh is deprived of several basic amenities including public transportation. Although the Sindh government recognises the need for public transport and road infrastructure in Sindh, it has failed to act due to widespread corruption and poor governance.
Most parts of Sindh have little to no public transport facilities, which has disconnected the people of Sindh from other parts of the country. People are forced to walk long distances in search of any form of transportation and they usually have to rely on obsolete vans that are a safety hazard. The drivers’ rude behaviour, careless driving, and high fares further add to people’s predicament. This coupled with poor road infrastructure causes frequent and prolonged traffic jams and fatal accidents. At times, patients in need of urgent medical assistance have failed to reach the hospital in time.
I urge the Sindh government to work with municipal authorities to refurbish the road infrastructure across Sindh and provide all the towns and cities with public buses to put an end to people’s misery. Also, they must ensure that the resources and funds allocated are being utilised effectively.
