KARACHI:

The incumbent government has failed to straighten the economic affairs of the country and provide relief to the masses. Load shedding has reached an unprecedented high and regular fuel price hikes have made the lives of the masses miserable. The government has claimed that there is a huge shortfall in the demand and supply of electricity. Although this may be true, the implementation of extreme measures is unjustifiable. Either the government should announce an action plan to appease the people or offer some relief to the inflation-hit masses. Otherwise, people who are rightfully outraged will take to the streets in protest. This will threaten the country’s peace and security.

With increased prices and higher taxes, people’s purchasing power has deteriorated, and they cannot afford even essential items. High taxes and production costs will also impact economic activity as businesses will look to cut costs. This can create further unemployment and harm the country’s economic progress and growth.

It appears that both the government and the opposition are indifferent to the woes of the masses. Instead of holding demonstrations and long marches, the opposition should work with the government to bring the country out of the crisis. It is high time that political leaders begin working towards the betterment of the people and the country instead of focusing on personal gains.
