Parking facilities

Parking facilities1

KARACHI:

With the increase in population and the number of vehicles, many residents of Rawalpindi are faced with daily inconveniences due to inadequate parking facilities. Small parking areas in the main markets such as Saddar have compelled people to park on the roads and even double park. This is congesting the narrow roads and affecting the flow of traffic across the city.

Traffic jams and road accidents are becoming a daily occurrence due to the constant commotion and the absence of constables to regulate traffic in busy areas. Also, drivers often hit parked cars and drive off because there are no CCTV cameras on the roads. Street vendors occupying sidewalks or pavements further reduce the space on the roads. Resultantly, pedestrians are faced with a constant risk of fatal accidents. The chaos on roads is adding to the noise and air pollution in the city and those living nearby markets have to bear the consequences of this.

I want to urge the municipal authorities to designate appropriate parking facilities for all the markets and install CCTV cameras to avoid safety threats. Also, police constables should be posted in all busy areas to regulate and control the flow of traffic.
