KARACHI:
Despite being experts in their fields of research, most senior faculty members at Pakistani universities are not tech-savvy and are unaware of modern tech-oriented methods. On the other hand, our emerging educationists and teachers are tech-savvy but inexperienced in practical teaching. The communication gap between the senior and junior faculty has prevented them from sharing knowledge and skills to bridge the gap and achieve progress within the different educational departments.
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training should introduce mandatory internships and training courses for teachers to reform their skills and learn new teaching methodologies. Otherwise, an influx of inexperienced teachers will threaten the futures of millions of students. The senior faculty can supervise internship courses to reap dual benefits. The internship should be focused on teaching effective teaching strategies to young and inexperienced teachers in collaboration with senior faculty. Simultaneously, the senior faculty can learn about the incorporation of technology in teaching and learning through the young teachers.
Also, senior, and junior members of the faculty should be encouraged to interact with each other through seminars and workshops in which they can exchange knowledge and experiences with one another. This will improve our higher education institutes and ensure that students receive the best form of education through highly skilled and knowledgeable teachers. A strong education sector will pave the way for progress and development across society.
