Another ‘tabdeeli’

KARACHI:

Dear Mr Prime Minister, I write with regard to your recent election to the country’s top office and wish you all the best in steering the nation to a brighter future. I write with bona fide intentions as I ask you to lead in the manner a leader should i.e. in the best interest of the country. This means shunning political games and victimisation tactics played by previous governments and purely focussing on efforts to take Pakistan to great heights. As PM, the huge burden of uniting a divided nation rests on your shoulders. I request you to concentrate on matters of the State with integrity and not to be a part of the political circus we have endured on and off for the past thirty years.

Sir, I ask you not to indulge in political witch-hunting or offer NROs to condone corruption. Should you follow true integrity in working purely for the betterment of the people, you will find every honest and law-abiding citizen at your back. At this juncture, we need a leader guiding us in a new, clean direction. Your predecessor had a popular following because the common law-abiding citizen had become disappointed to see preferential treatment for the select few amid rising levels of inflation and corruption. Though you may have political differences with those in the saddle before you, please do stick to some of the good steps they took for the public good. There is no harm in learning from the good work of others because at the end of the day, everyone should be batting for the same team i.e. Pakistan.

I humbly request you to act in the best interest of the country without fear or favour. Be just, be neutral, and be honest as it will help you win over new voters and give you the chance to re-write our political history. Sitting at the helm of affairs, you have been bestowed with a good opportunity to prove yourself a great guide. So please do not let history repeat itself and be the difference Pakistanis want to see.

Osman A Hadi
