KARACHI:
The people of Karachi have been facing numerous difficulties and, in my opinion, the biggest of them is the issue of heavy traffic. The population of Karachi is over 20 million. People have to leave their places hours before to reach their destination or workplace and still they get late because of congested roads. This causes wastage of time, severe exhaustion from continuously driving, and pollution in the form of carbon from exhaust fumes.
The harsh reality is that Karachi has no proper public transportation system. For that reason, everyone has to travel in their own cars. Thirty cars instead of one bus on the road will definitely lead to heavy traffic jams. We should learn from the Singapore government who discourage private vehicles and promote public transport. They have successfully convinced 53% of the citizens to use public transport. Apart from this, dilapidated infrastructure is another reason why Karachi is facing traffic issues. But what makes the situation even worse is that big trucks and trailers are allowed to travel at any time of the day. Still, they work and operate during the time when traffic is at its peak.
Karachi’s traffic needs serious attention. The concerned authorities must take prudent measures to develop proper infrastructure and implement traffic laws in order to make Karachi and livable city.
