Political instability

KARACHI:

With less than a year left for the general elections, the country is witnessing serious political unrest. Due to disagreements within the ruling party, several members have subverted and even the allies appear to be estranged from the government. Since the submission of the no-confidence motion, it seems that the opposition has a stronghold.

The political arena has demonstrated extreme volatility with new developments taking place every day. The prime minister has visited different parties and leaders ahead of the no-confidence vote to improve ties with them. The opposition has also continued to corroborate and work with regional and provincial parties to ensure their support in the no-confidence motion. With increased pressure, both opposition and the federal government have engaged in a political blame-game via talk shows and speeches by hurling slurs at one another.

We have yet to see the outcome of the no-confidence motion, however, it is clear that the PTI-led federal government’s position is weakening and the PTI will struggle with re-election next year. Although neither the government nor the opposition seems to be interested in the public’s woes, the public must remain attentive to the ongoing situation and determine their vote accordingly for the next elections.
