This is with reference to an incident that happened inside a prominent bakery chain in Karachi where an staff member refused to write ‘Merry Christmas’ on cake. The incident portrays the phycological level of our society. If anyone wants proof of how deep religious intolerance has been ingrained in our society, this is it. It is at the most fundamental and absurd level that religion has become a cause of divide among people. Rather than create a sense of unity and peace, hatred for the other is spreading rapidly.
I wonder where we as a nation are heading towards. On the one hand we Muslims call ourselves the champions of humanity, peace and love. But our action and deeds are biased and in contrast with the foundation tenants of Islam — humanity, love and peace. We must learn to speak out against such incidents and help others understand the true essence of Islam and humanity.
