KARACHI:
Pakistan’s educational system is grappling with several issues at once, which is why it has produced unsatisfactory results in recent years. One reason for the poor quality of education is that those who are at the helm of affairs are often arbitrarily appointed and are uninterested in reforming education. Many education ministers or officials are only qualified up to matric or intermediate level, and are not equipped to make decisions about higher education.
The educational curriculum and a uniform system are other concerns. Across the country, a wide range of curriculums is being taught in different educational systems. Consequently, there is a disparity because everyone is at a different stage of learning and development. Perhaps, this could be resolved by reforming the local education board to draw more students towards it.
The government’s initiative to introduce a Single National Curriculum (SNC) is commendable. However, it is not without discrepancies. The Sindh government refused to implement SNC which means that there’s still an absence of widespread consensus over curriculum. The country needs an effective education system that inculcates good values in students and supports their growth and development. This is only possible if all relevant parties come together and work collectively on educational reforms because it is integral for the future of our country.
