Pothole app

Pothole app

KARACHI:

The K-P Planning and Development department is initiating the development of a mobile app called ‘Pothole Fixer’. The core objective of launching this app is to curb several issues that have caused serious damage to the roads of K-P.

The dilapidated condition of roads in the province causes immense inconvenience to the people. While fatal accidents occur frequently, traffic jams occur almost every day during peak hours. Moreover, piles of garbage and rubbish accumulate onto these roads. The stench from the festering garbage, overflowing gutters, hordes of flies and mosquitoes are believed to adversely affect the health of citizens and cause fatal diseases. Hence, by launching this app, the government hopes to ameliorate such issues and provide relief to transporters and commuters alike. Through this app, which is being developed by the Geographic Information System (GIS), the general public will be able to report broken potholes and roads by uploading pictures that will automatically be sent to the relevant departments. It is hoped that the officials concerned will take timely action once the project starts. As of yet, the K-P government has established GIS cells in 35 districts of the province. The cells have maps of a total of 35,817 locations against 8,230 schemes of the annual development programmes underway since 2017-18. The government has also recently announced plans to build new race track in the motor sports arena with the help of the pothole fixer app and the GIS. It seems that the province is moving fast towards development.

It is highly suggested that other provinces follow this initiative in order to better facilitate the public. This will not only save commuters from fatal accidents but will also help smoothen infrastructural development.
