BALOCHISTAN:
In order to effectively manage the increasing number of CSS aspirants, the Federal Public Service Commission recently announced that it would conduct preliminary screening test to filter out candidates for the main exam.
The number of aspirants, according to FPSC, increased annually by 10% from 1998-2019, with an increase of 69% for years 2020 and 2021. The step that the federal commission has taken merits applause because it will not only filter out only serious candidates for the main exam but also enhance evaluation and reduce the time span of allocations. With thousands of papers to be evaluated and limited time at their disposal, examiners often feel the pressure to rush things, which has stymied effective assessment. Preliminary exam will also help the FPSC save time and resources, as thousands of aspirants for whom the commission has organised resources don’t appeared in the exam.
Despite all the benefits that screening test will eventually give, the FPSC seems to have missed some lapses it could improve, if it deliberated on the matter. The screening test will disrupt the candidates’ study timeline. Those who have been preparing for years are already exhausted and extending the exam will adversely affect their preparations. Overall, I believe that conducting a screening test to filter out serious candidates and improve the checking process is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, it will bear fruit in the near future.
