Unhygienic water

Unhygienic water

KARACHI:

Different parts of Lahore are faced with water shortages with some areas receiving water for just a few hours throughout the day. Even then the water pressure is very low, and it is difficult to complete the household chores in time.

Most of the time, the water supplied is unhygienic and harmful for use. A lot of abdominal diseases like Hepatitis A, cholera, diarrhoea and dysentery besides typhoid and polio are spreading amongst people. To meet water requirements, some people have resorted to buying water from tankers. The quality of water supplied by them is also low and unsanitary. The provision of poor-quality water is alarming because it is further jeopardising people’s health when there are already several epidemic outbreaks. Residents in different parts of the city have been facing this problem for the past few months.

I request the authorities concerned to ensure that the water provided is clean for consumption. Water is a necessity and crucial for our lives. Therefore, it must be supplied regularly so that people do not have to purchase it through expensive means.
