KARACHI:
In Pakistan, governments have regularly resorted to blaming past leaderships for the ongoing crises in the country. Instead of alleviating the crisis through policies and measures, the government indulges in a blame game with the opposition.
At present, the hike in international fuel prices compelled the incumbent government to raise petrol prices. This is yet another strain on the public that was already under pressure because of increased electricity and gas bills. Given the low wages and high unemployment rate, it is becoming extremely difficult for the people to maintain their livelihoods. The government and opposition parties on the other hand will continue to sabotage each other’s reputation.
The Prime Minister came into power with the promise of curbing corruption and improving the lives of citizens, especially the working class, by uplifting the economy. It is about time that he delivered on his promises. The government needs to take stringent measures to reduce inflationary pressures so that people can afford basic amenities. The government should also support different economic ventures to create employment opportunities.
