KARACHI:
The month of Rabi-ul-Awwal has commenced and with that the religious activities in the honour of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). The 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal holds significant importance in Islam because it was on this day that the Muslim community was blessed with the birth of their last Prophet (peace be upon him). Besides engaging in religious celebrations and prayers during this month, we must reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He taught us tolerance, peace, forgiveness, service of mankind, and other practices that would encourage us to improve ourselves.
To show our respect and love for our Prophet (peace be upon him), we should follow in his footsteps and abide by his teachings. In many Muslim countries, corrupt practices are rampant, which is alarming. It shows that the Muslim community is drifting away from the teachings of Islam. Instead of engaging in ill practices such as bribery, lying and corruption, we should engage in society with honesty and modesty.
During his lifetime, the Prophet (peace be upon him) preached unity and brotherhood. But today, the Muslim Ummah is divided on various lines, including sectarian one. How can a divided Ummah raise its voice against the sufferings of the Muslims in Palestine and Kashmir? There is need for the Muslim countries to get united for the benefit of the whole Ummah. We must obey the teachings of our religion in letter and spirit.
