KARACHI:
The technological revolution has completely altered the way we communicate with each other and disseminate information. We create our avatars that project our being onto the virtual platform so that we may be able to socialise with others through online applications such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp. But not many realise that with such drastic change, new problems have emerged.
The drama of WikiLeaks that unfolded a few years ago ushered in a new era where video leaks have become common. Recently, a video clip of Muhammad Zubair, the former governor of Sindh and the spokesperson of the PML-N, did rounds on social media. However, no electronic or print media is willing to talk about the issue due to the sensitivity of the matter. Whether the video is genuine or fake is for the forensics to prove, but the media’s mum over such sensational issues is creating a negative image of the country. Where are all the ‘investigative journalists’ now?
Though Zubair has outright rejected all accusations made against him, the question arises as to who is behind this leak and how it managed to make its way on social media so easily. If the issue is not addressed in a timely manner, we will see more of such videos in the days to come.
