Instabilities within PDM

Letter October 02, 2021
The PPP chairman accused the PML-N of pursuing a duplicitous policy

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is a multi-party alliance that was formed to work for ousting the incumbent government. It is essentially a democratic movement that aims to highlight the key issues of the country and underscore the weaknesses of the present government. Even though the PDM outnumbered the ruling coalition, there has been a growing rift amongst the parties within this opposition alliance. Consequently, they called on to disintegrate the movement altogether.

The PPP chairman accused the PML-N of pursuing a duplicitous policy. He claimed that the Chief Minister of Punjab is pursuing hypocritical politics and urged the PML-N to use its vote to remove him. In addition, the PPP remarked that the PDM President Maulana Fazlur Rehman wants all other parties to follow his instructions. Rehman responded by saying that if a no-confidence motion is a sensible idea, the PPP should move it against the Chief Minister of Punjab. These increased attacks on one another have led to growing animosities. It is difficult to determine what impact the PDM has had on the current government, but internal rivalries have significantly weakened the movement itself.

I urge all parties within the PDM to cooperative with each another and approach matters with flexibility. The PDM has the potential to change the course of politics in the country.
