KARACHI:
The people of Shahdadkot have long been deprived of several basic amenities. Shahdadkot is often considered a backward district of Sindh because of the authorities’ negligence. The living conditions are extremely dire as there is an absence of proper healthcare and education. The situation was further worsened by water shortages and illegal loadshedding under the Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) in Shahdadkot.
Considering, the hot temperatures, it is impossible for many to survive in the district without water and electricity. Two weeks ago, the SDO announced a new schedule of loadshedding. The citizens receive electricity for only a few hours every day; and because of this many people have to do much of their work during the daylight hours. This has put a considerable strain on the people of Shahdadkot.
Hundreds of teachers and students protested against the SDO and Wapda officials. However, their calls have fallen on deaf ears, as the Sindh government has not taken any action against the SDO. The illegal loadshedding has continued, and no authoritative figure has questioned Wapda about this. The people of Shahdadkot should not be neglected. The problems facing the district must be recognised and resolved. We request the federal government and the provincial government to resolve the issue of load-shedding at their earliest.
