KARACHI:
Although food is a basic amenity of human life, inaccessibility to food has left many in a vulnerable state. Food insecurity has increased the likelihood of starvation for lower-income groups. Rising inflation and costly food commodities have made the lives of common people and impoverished segments of society even harder.
Many people suffer from malnourishment and other life-threatening diseases due to a lack of access to healthy food. Food security is essential for the well-being and health of the people. The relevant authorities must ensure that food prices are reasonable and affordable. If the prices of essential and daily-used food items are affordable, most people will be able to maintain a good health. It is pertinent to mention here that food security is also important for the sustainable growth and the development of the people.
It is about time that the government began taking pragmatic measures to ensure food security across the country. It must ensure the availability of the widely used food items at cheaper prices to achieve the target of the UN sustainable development goals by 2030.
