KARACHI:
People of Warsak Road, Garhi Sherdad, and other adjacent villages have been deprived of stead electricity supply for a little more than a decade now. Electricity shortages are extremely commonplace and have disrupted people’s day-to-day routines. Students have been severely impacted as they do not have a proper studying environment. They are unable to access online educational resources. It has been difficult especially during the pandemic because students living in these areas have not been able to attend online classes. Consequently, many have fallen behind their peers. Most people cannot afford electric generators to meet their needs. Electricity shortages have put a strain on the people who are required to do much of their work during day-light hours.
Warsak dam is a hydropower plant and a cheap source of electricity for the area. However, the residents of its surrounding areas are deprived of electricity. On more than one occasion, residents have raised their concerns with the relevant authorities, complaining about the involvement of officers and workers in bribery and corruption. Approximately 95% of the electricity of the Warsak dam is being used illegally by unregistered factories — something that has reduced the supply of electricity to residents. In their desperation, people have reached out to the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of K-P, but the problem has remained unresolved.
I request the authorities concerned to consider this matter at their earliest and resolve the issue. The people of Warsak are falling behind the rest of the country due to power shortages. They need to be taken out of this dire situation.
