Western countries blame the Muslims for misusing religion for the purpose of nation building, political success and subjugating women. A similar kind of liberal rhetoric of empowering Afghan women was used by the US establishment.
Western feminists want the life of a standard brown women to be equal to that of women in the West, but they do not pay any heed to their problems. They believe less in choice and more in forcing these brown women to adopt western ideals. They are clueless about the fact that the problems as well as the culture of developing countries are completely different and cannot be compared.
Some places are more conservative than others due to long-standing traditions. Therefore, we cannot tell women that not wearing a scarf is considered progressive; this is a manipulation. Instead, what should be considered progressive is having the choice to wear or not to wear whatever the women want, of course within the parameters of the extreme.
