Climate change

Letter August 21, 2021
There are several other things that contribute to global warming

KARACHI:

Most of us believe that the Earth is everlasting and will remain unaffected. However, increased global warming and climate change have proved otherwise. Global warming refers to the rise in global temperatures. A major cause is the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, to generate electricity. This pollutes the ozone layer. Various diseases have emerged as a consequence of climate change, which affect millions of humans, animals, birds, and plants each year. As the World Health Organization pointed out, air pollution alone caused around 4.6 million deaths.

There are several other things that contribute to global warming. For instance, cars and other vehicles produce flames and damaging components that put millions of lives at risk by polluting the air. We are now witnessing nature’s retaliation in the form of soil erosion, desertification, floods, acid rain, landings, and volcanic destruction. This will have dire consequences if we fail to tackle it effectively. Unless all the countries start taking stringent measures to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases, the Earth will continue to deteriorate and there will not be a sustainable future. It is time that we realised our part in this and learnt our lesson.
