KARACHI:
The Sindh government-enforced lockdown in Karachi was lifted on 9th August. Since then, public places have resumed operation with a limited gathering of people. In lieu of this many people have once again shown negligence towards vaccination and SOPs. The announcement of the government not blocking cellphone sim cards of unvaccinated people was further met with more people avoiding vaccination. However, it is now more important than ever to get vaccinated as Pakistan’s Covid-19 cases have crossed 1.1 million mark.
It is important for people to understand that the vaccination is not just to be able to access public places, but it is important for their personal physical health and safety. The vaccine helps build immunity against the virus. Many unvaccinated people have argued that people are still contracting the virus despite being fully vaccinated; health officials across the world have confirmed that the vaccine reduces the strength of symptoms and people are likely to recover faster. This, therefore, rectifies the argument against vaccination.
It is irrational to just blame the authorities for not doing enough when people themselves have had a careless attitude throughout the pandemic. Many countries are now witnessing a resurge in the infection. To avoid a horrific situation, everyone needs to do their part. To avoid going into another lockdown, it is necessary for people to get vaccinated against the virus and adhere to the preventive measures. Those who have avoided taking a second jab must get it as early as possible.
