Keep fighting

When it comes to handling the coronavirus pandemic, undoubtedly, Pakistan has done a remarkable job

KARACHI:

Recently, a lot of people have been upset over the UK’s decision to keep Pakistan on the red list. When it comes to handling the coronavirus pandemic, undoubtedly, Pakistan has done a remarkable job. It is a fact that our hospitals and graveyards did not witness a heartbreaking situation that many other high-income as well as low-income countries had to witness. Our efforts have been commendable in saving lives and livelihoods because of the political will of our leadership that, unlike neighbouring India, seriously heeded the advice of the NCOC.

However, after the devastating incident it seems that India has significantly ramped up efforts to fight the pandemic. If we look at recent data, their national positivity rate is lower than ours and their testing rate is also much higher. In light of these new developments, I urge the Pakistani authorities not to remain complacent in the fight against the deadly virus.
